Borrowing Materials

Checking out books

Library books may be checked out at the front desk. Please present your current WVU Tech ID card at the main service desk. There is no limit on the number of books you can check out. 

Some library items do not circulate. These include reference books, newspapers, journals, and magazines. 

Reserved textbooks and faculty materials are located behind the service desk known as TEXTBOOK CHECKOUT. Items on Reserve are checked out for 2 hours and may be renewed if no one else has requested the book. Reserve materials are for Library use only, although a few items may be checked out overnight if faculty or library staff grant permission. Special arrangements can be made for textbook use for an open book test.

Loan periods and renewals

Students may check out books for two weeks (14 days). Renewals are allowed if a Hold does not exist on the book from another user.

Faculty privileges allow books to be checked out for a semester unless requested by another patron.

Other loan privileges:

  • Laptops:            8 hours
  • DVD/VHS:         4 weeks
  • Reserves:          2 hours

Interlibrary Loan Services

Interlibrary Loan Services

ILL services has merged with WVU ILL services in Morgantown. WVU will manage the fullfillment of book and article requests for WVU Tech students, faculty and staff. Items requested will be mailed to your address. You will receive a pre-paid postage label for returning the items. You may also bring borrowed books to the WVU Tech Library and staff will return them to Morgantown. Requests remain FREE to students, faculty and staff. Fees may apply to books not returned or lost.

Research Guides or LibGuides are created by the library team to help you to be a successful Golden Bear.

Fines

Books returned after five day grace period: 5 cents per day fine

Lost book replacement charge: $50.00

Student records will be tagged for outstanding fines and/or lost books. Fines and/or replacement charges must be paid before registering for classes or requesting transcript.

Books may be returned  at the Library Front Service Desk. 

Magazines, Newspapers, Reference materials, Reserve materials, Microfiche, etc., may not be checked out.

Photocopy charge is 10 cents per page. Copying is allowed under fair use guidelines. Copyright Fair Use

Persons without borrowing privileges are allowed to use materials in the building and/or make photocopies under fair use guidelines. Copyright Fair Use
