Imagine if we didn't know anything about the past? How people lived or died? How did the Romans rise to power? What happened to the Mayans? Who was King of England when the Revolutionary War began? Why were the Romanovs executed in Russia in 1918? What caused America's Great Depression? When were the pyramids built? Where did the Bubonic plague originate? History is the study of the past based on documentation. And how do we know about the past before the written record? Knowing history is important to our lives and our society. It helps us to understand where we came from, how events shaped or contributed to our society, and it serves as a good predictor of the future.
"Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." - George Santayana
